what would you do if 2 male dogs had a fight!?

ok i want everyones honest thoughts about this!!
i have had a male staffy here for the last few days,as a trial to see if everyone gets along!
now zander isnt desexed (rottweiler) and either is the male staffy,
2 days ago the staffy full on attacked zander,we were all just standing still and there was no reason for him to attack!!
my poor zander has been in bad shape for 2 days because he got a bite on the leg which got infected and puffed up and he couldnt move etc
its all fixed up now tho and he is back to him old self!
ever since we have kept them seperate and tryed to make sure there was no way it could happen again!
anyways i wont blaba on for ever but today my heart dropped!
i was out the front saying good bye to my brother when i seen zander coming from around the side (zander was out the back& the staffy around the front)
i tryed to grab zander as soon as i saw him but he walked straight up to the front door like he always does, when BAM the staffy attacked but this time zander wouldnt stop and had him pinned and was shaking him etc at this stage my brother was already half way up the rd im trying but they would stop fighting

my brother came screaming back jumped out of his car and tryed to get them away from each other (zander still refusing to let go!!
my uncle which was with my brother came to help as i was petrified and trying to get chloe inside and then trying to help get them apart
i no some people will dissagree with this but finally my brother kick zander on the leg!zander ran away and we able to remove them both from the situation!!!
the first thing i did was made sure they were apart and couldnt get back together to fight again but then i had to check on the staffy
staffy is fine with only druel and so is zander feeewww

no one got hert this time!!!

my uncle has taken the staffy to his place untill i can contact the owners and get them to come and get him!
i dont want anyone to get hert so i am just going to give the staff back (which the owners said to do if something doesnt work out)

i dont blame zander for what he did today!i beleive he is still angrey with the staff for attacking him the other day and herting him!
zander is not and aggressive dog and i honestly think he was protecting him self!

ok basically i want everyones thoughts about this,what would you do to make everyone safe???
and keeping them seperate all the time isnt possible
have i done the right thing about removing the staffy from zanders yard?
i am still shaken from this!
after the staffy attacked him 2 days ago i thought it was a one time thing and was willing to give it all another shot but today i just cant take anymore chances

this problem has gone on since man and dog found each other, it doesnt happen all the time but same sex dogs do have a tendancy to blue amoungst themselves, most times its a dominance thing,packorder theymay grow up together,sleep,eat,play, then all of a sudden its on, once they hit maturity something clicks with them, these are dogs that have grown up together, so if youve just introduced a new one, they would be trying to sort themselves out, most yards with a few dogs would have a leader of some sorts, and now and then a younger one will try their luck, it could just be the slightest thing that could start the fight, been there, done that, you were very lucky that you had some help or it could have been very ugly, ive found females worse than males, with what ve seen males tend to check each other before hand, females just hook straight in, mine are big powerful dogs and its hard to seperate them, i now have them seperated at all times and rotate them around, its a bad situation, something you will have to work out for yourself, if you cant seperate, then youve done the next best thing, you dont know when it will happen again and you could be on your own, who knows in the heat of the moment it just maybe you that they rip into when trying to stop them, your situation would have continued without separation, so yes, i believe you did the right thing, for your dog and yourself, cheers

as i said to him he wouldnt have known or cared what it was and that he thought it was the dog!
the staffy was 4 yrs old so alot older than zander his only 1
i cant risk anydog getting hert;(
i was trying my best to get them appart but they wouldnt listen! if my brother and uncle didnt come back i would have had no choice but to let them fight it out if they would stop on my command!
my priorty was get chloe and my son away then try my best!
by brother came back not long ago to check on me and zander and he told me he thinks he kicked zander in the balls!!!
what ever he did it got them apart and saved the staffy its life and zander from being hert!
i can confirm none of the dogs have bite wounds this time!!!

i just couldnt risk it i tried my best but the staffy was just male aggressive!!!
zanders yard and i dont want to ruin the life my dogs have atm
the staffy has gone! and everyone is safe not harmed and happy!!
the owners totally aggreed it was the right thing,i just love chloe so much i thought a male like her would be great but unfortantly it didnt work so its just me zander and chloe and my son and fiance again! i am happy this way but he was a really nice boy and i just didnt want to risk anyone getting hurt again

and i blame my self a bit because i no most male undesexed dont get along but luckly it was a trial and not a wam bam thank you mam your stuck with the dog kind of thing

well you tried, you sound alot like me, its hard to say no to a dog in need of a home. Sometimes it works, sometimes it dosnt, you just never know. I got my male dog when he was 4 yrs old and there was a small desexed foxie that was running the yard lol it was funny to watch him boss a dog that was 10 times his size. Then when I took him home he let my cats boss him around, but now he dosnt like any other dogs unless they are female

my main concern was some one getting hert but its back to the way it was so everyone is happy &safe

Poor Zander... sounds like his territory was at risk.. Stick with two dogs. I know its sounds cruel but a dog that wants to fight might need desexing to settle the hormones otherwise keep other dogs out of his own territory

yes but remember the staffy attacked him first!
i want to let zander be mated once before i desex him!
but he will be getting desexed soon!!

Would having the two dogs castrated help? The trouble is once males or females starting fighting between themselves it can turn into a nightmare. I hope that they do not fight again but I would think about castration, training and more socialisation perhaps.

I think you have done the right thing by removing the staffy,it dont look like they will get on,maybe a young dog might be ok to introduce gradually to your rotty ,but make sure he is well restrained on a lead.I have always been told put the hose on them,if they fight,maybe you could try that if you need to anougher time.

apparently the staffy has gone to another home with another male staffy
both undesexed but they said that havent had fight!!!
im thinking now that the staffy was intimidated by zanders size!!?
zander is fine with puppys and kittens it was just he wasnt taken crap from the staffy again i think
and ive always got told that the hose can make some dogs go for it even worse!!!!!!
